Cianjur — The Gunung Padang site is considered to be one of the oldest sites in the world. This 10,000-years-old site is referred to as the Göbekli Tepe site in Turkey.
The site is thought to have been first built in 8000 BC. Its age is even older than the Pyramids in Egypt which were built around 2500 BC, the relics of the old cities of Mahenjo Daro and Harrapa in India which are 3,000 years old, and the Mesopotamian culture that was in the same era.
It is said that Mount Padang is said to be a place of imprisonment for Sri Baduga Prabu Siliwangi, therefore on the terrace or the third step there is a place to be imprisoned by Prabu Siliwangi where we must take off our footwear to enter it.
It is strongly suspected that the Gunung Padang Megalithic Site was not built in one era. But the structure was built continuously over three periods from 8,000 BC to 1000 BC.
The oldest layer that is 10 thousand years old is buried underground. While the youngest layer is 3,000 years old. Remarkably the structure of the building that resembles a temple is like it was deliberately disguised.
“(Like) it was intentionally filled with earth and simple megaliths were erected on it. It is still a mystery why it was made like that. The tendency is to be disguised so that people don’t plunder,” said the Head of the Gunung Padang Research Coordinator.
The author deeply regrets the government’s attitude that seems to not care about the site that is predicted to be the oldest site in the world. Because, since the end of the SBY administration, the site restoration project is no longer ongoing.
In the era of President Jokowi, there was not even any restoration or addition of facilities, let alone special research from the government on what and how Mount Padang is.
Mount Padang looks adrift, less attention. Even though it is a great Indonesian heritage. Not only for science, but also it can become a tourism icon that is not inferior to the pyramids in Egypt, said private tour guide Kang Memed, which was agreed by local residents.
Memed added that in Gunung Padang there are also Carrying Stones, Tiger Stones, Kujang Stones, Gamelan/Saron Stones and Kacapi Stones where Batu Gamelan and Kacapi Stones will sound if they are hit/or stopped with their fingers on the stone blade.
Mount Padang in addition to Megalith Sites is also associated with Jabbal Nur or Mount of Light in Mecca.
The building area of the Gunung Padang site is 900 square meters with an area of 3 hectares and is located at 885 MDPL.
The largest megalith in Southeast Asia is located in Kp. Gunung Padang, Ds. Karyamukti, Kec. Campaka, Kab. Cianjur, Prov. West Java.
